Narrative
DOUGLAS COUNTY, NE – Three people were injured, one critically, Saturday morning as a result of a southwest Omaha crash involving six vehicles.
The multi-vehicle accident occurred at South 153rd Street and Q Street, just west of Walnut Grove Park, in the city’s Millard neighborhood. Omaha Police and local firefighters were dispatched to the area shortly before 12:00 p.m.
According to officials, a 2008 Chevy Malibu was traveling westbound and at a high rate of speed on Q Street when its driver failed to stop at a red light. Moments later, the Chevy collided with a 2019 Dodge Journey that was heading southbound on 153rd Street.
The impact sent both vehicles into eastbound Q Street, where they collided with four other unspecified vehicles.
Two people from the Dodge sustained injuries considered non-life-threatening, while the driver of the Chevy suffered life-threatening injuries, including major leg fractures. All three were rushed to CUMC-Bergan Mercy Hospital.
An investigation remains underway, but the Omaha Police Department has said that charges are likely to be filed.
