Narrative
OMAHA, NE – A 14-year-old boy lost his life as a result of a high-speed, multi-vehicle collision early Monday, September 23, in Omaha that left five other people, including juveniles, injured.
Omaha Police said the fatal accident happened at the corner of South 37th Street and X Street, prompting a response from officers at around 3:15 a.m.
An early investigation found that a car that was reported stolen was traveling southbound on 37th Street at high speeds when it sideswiped a parked vehicle. Moments after, the speeding car hit another vehicle and overturned.
First responders arrived to find the vehicle had come to rest on the passenger’s side, with the 14-year-old boy partially ejected. He was rushed to Nebraska Medicine where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officials said the driver and the other four passengers range in age from 13 to 20. All suffered injuries of various severity and were also transported to Nebraska Medicine.
An investigation was underway, but arrests and charges were anticipated.
