Narrative
OTOE COUNTY, NE – A two-vehicle wreck Friday morning, July 12, near Dunbar claimed the lives of two men and left a teenage boy injured.
The double-fatal collision took place on a stretch of Highway 2 west of Highway 67. Otoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies and first responders were dispatched to the scene shortly before 6:00 a.m.
A preliminary investigation found that a 44-year-old Nebraska City man was driving a Ford Explorer eastbound on Highway 2. For reasons still unclear, he veered past the median and caused the Ford to strike a westbound Toyota Sienna driven by a 65-year-old Gary, Indiana resident who subsequently succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The driver of the Ford was also later pronounced deceased after being rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City.
A 13-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Ford was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital with unspecified injuries.
The OCSO is handling the investigation with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol, which is tasked with conducting the crash reconstruction.
