POLK CO., NE – One person sustained fatal injuries last Friday in a three-vehicle collision along the highway in central Polk County.

The accident happened around 7 a.m. on US-81, or NE-92, between Osceola and Shelby. This is about 65 miles northwest of Lincoln.

Police say that for unknown reasons, and eastbound vehicle entered the westbound side of US-81 and collided head-on with two westbound vehicles.

The wrong-way driver, identified as 22-year-old Yair Garcia, died at the scene of the crash.

The other drivers did not require hospitalization.

A full investigation is underway.
